Election eve is often a late one for candidates as they seek to touch as many voters as possible in a campaign’s final hours, but Tim Walz will be getting an assist from none other than Stephen Colbert.
The Minnestota governor and VP candidate will be Colbert’s lead guest Monday night. The two sat down for a pre-taped interview this afternoon in Bucks County, PA.
Monday will mark the first time the CBS host has interviewed Walz, and will make Colbert the only late-night host to welcome both Kamala Harris and her running mate in the run-up to Election Day. Walz has previously guested with Jimmy Kimmel (on October 7) and Jon Stewart (on October 21).
After speaking with Walz, Colbert will close out his last episode before Election Day with an in-studio visit from fellow late-night host (and Daily Show alum) John Oliver.
Colbert announced the booking at tonight’s taping of The Late Show.
“Monday night is Election Eve and I am proud to say that on this show, Monday night, my first guest will be the governor of Minnesota, the vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz,” Colbert told his audience.
“Then, after we get through some of that midwestern, that Minnesota nice, we’re going to get to some English nasty, because John Oliver, John Oliver is my guest after that.”
Although The Daily Show is planning a live one-hour special on election night, Colbert and his fellow late-night hosts on the broadcast networks will be pre-empted by election results coverage Tuesday. (The Late Show jumped channels to corporate sibling Showtime for live election episodes in 2016 and 2020, but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards for this year.)
