The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has bid adieu to a member of its team who has been described as no less than “truly transformative.”
Supervising producer Nick Dyer, who had been with NBC’s flagship late-night show for nearly 850 episodes and served as its Head of Digital, clocked out after Friday night’s post-Olympics Opening Ceremony special.
An Emmy-nominated producer from his previous gig at The Daily Show, Dyer at The Tonight Show oversaw the development of digital content, strategy, and production.
“Five years, 845 shows, and 50 billion views later, I produced my final episode of The Tonight Show tonight,” Dyer shared on Instagram. “Working with @JimmyFallon and the entire team has been the most formative experience of my career. I’ve made lifelong friends, helped secure the show’s first Emmy nomination in over seven years, and produced countless Digital Originals with the best team in the business.”
Dyer’s IG profile indicates that he has left the NBC series to serve as the head of programming/development at Ampersand, the multimedia production company founded by EGOT-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Tonight Show photographer Todd Owyoung sang Dyer’s praises on Instagram, saying his colleague “had such a truly transformative impact on The Tonight Show and digital content across so many platforms.”
Sharing backstage pics of Dyer coordinating with guests Millie Bobby Brown and BTS’ Jin, Owyoung observed that “guests love to come on our show because we make them feel not just comfortable, but taken care of. That trust is built with every digital piece, and that’s a testament to Nick and his team.
“The quality, creativity and irresistible charm Nick and his team brought to every production was evident,” he added. “And the true proof is not just the 50 billion views, or the top social follows, but the trust built with our guests, who jumped at the opportunities to work with the digital team with every appearance.”
The Hollywood Reporter recently profiled The Tonight Show‘s digital team and its ability to calculatedly go viral, such as with their take on the “Beez in the Trap” meme—which surprisingly paired host Jimmy Fallon with human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, and became only the second Tonight Show vid to clock 100 million views on TikTik.

The Wrap similarly reported on how Dyer & Co. led The Tonight Show to more than 9 billion social media views in just one year (from June 2024-May 2025).
Owyoung quotes Chris Shorey, the photographer producer for all of NBC late night, as saying, “[Nick] and his team totally revamped how stills content from the show was consumed and sought after, and made [our] work feel more seen and appreciated.”
