That’s a wrap for The Daily Show this summer. The long-running Comedy Central series is taking an extended break until Monday, September 8, 2025.
Though the timing is sure to raise eyebrows amid speculation that Jon Stewart and his team might be next on the late-night chopping block at New Paramount—following the cancellations of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and After Midnight with Taylor Tomlinson at CBS—sources at the show tell LateNighter that this five-week hiatus has been planned for months and has nothing to do with the current drama at the company.
Desi Lydic said as much when she announced the break at the end of last Thursday’s episode, saying “Just to let you guys know, we’re going on a production break for August, which was planned months and months ago. So don’t freak out. Have a great summer and we’ll see you in September when we can all freak out together.”
Keeping with the theme, Comedy Central has been running commercials promoting the show’s planned hiatus, and—more crucially—its return in September:

It’s not the first time the show has taken an extended summer break.
When Trevor Noah was still hosting in 2021, staffers took a full three months off between the end of The Daily Social Distancing Show in June and the show’s return to the studio in September. And in 2015, the show took a seven-week break between the end of Jon Stewart’s first run and Trevor Noah’s debut as host.
As we’ve reported, The Daily Show has been on a relative hot streak in recent weeks, with Josh Johnson’s hosting debut winning praise from critics (including LateNighter’s own Bill Carter) and outdrawing each of the show’s other hosts—including Stewart himself—among viewers in the coveted 18–49 demo.
Johnson appears to be making the most of the time off, bringing his act to 14 cities over the break. Jon Stewart and Jordan Klepper also have stand-up dates planned.
Comedy Central will be filling The Daily Show’s 11pm ET timeslot with repeats of other programming during the break. (The Family Guy will be airing this Monday and Tuesday, while South Park repeats will take the TDS slot on Wednesday and Thursday.)

If the daily show gets canceled, you all are in on the felon, pedophile president who is threatening free speech. John Stewart and the entire crew are genius comedians and truth sayers.

The new leadership at Paramount should make it a priority to stop running TDS promos on Comedy Central.
Comedy Central already loses half of its audience when they see TDS promos constantly each day bashing Republicans and jerking off Democrats
You’ve never watched the show, did you, you fucking retard? Otherwise, you wouldn’t be saying your usual shit!
‘Tis a shame, but if I had to cover this administration 4 days a week, a month vacation would be extremely welcome right about now.
Have a great vacation. Will miss your educated humor!
Why the whole show for 5 weeks? Especially now when we beed you the most. :(.
so you guys are ALL coming back? please say if you become trumpist (*spit*) victims, you cheer us all up over here on the opposite side of the pond, we love you all so very much, i just wish i could buy your channel to keep you all safe. please do not stay away too long the Brits love you all, and i can say at my age; KEEP THE FAITH.
I will miss that show for the next eight weeks.
BUMMER! But I guess we all need a vacation!
With the heighten political climate I am disappointed they have chosen to take such a long break. They could have been such a powerful voice.
Hello I am an eternal fan. Fabricator, public art installer, and aspiring writer. Light-hearted, kinda funny and black.
I was recently and ironically laid off from a job which I loved, and the timing coincided with: dismantling EOE, ICE raids, dawning of Der furor , police state, blatant racism, freedom being seized, and all the other stuff tha happens before the world ends. Im writing up a new resume not for only work, but potentially for political asylum. Would you have any advice? or possibly an entry level position within your team?
If I was a droid I would be a free thinking compassion based weapon system. Clever and kind. I specialize in things I’ve never done before , great welder and funny.
