The Chris Gethard Show is Returning—For One Night Only

Chris Gethard’s cult-classic late-night show is coming back—for one night.

On Thursday, the comedian announced the return of The Chris Gethard Show in the form of a live performance. “One night only. TCGS is back,” Gethard wrote on Instagram. Per the event description, the show will also feature TCGS alumni Shannon O’Neill, Murf Meyer, Connor Ratliff, Riley Soloner, The World’s Greatest Dancer Rob Malone, Bill Florio, and more.

The event is part of the grand reopening of the Upright Citizens Brigade’s new New York City theater. New York’s last UCB Theatre closed in 2020, leaving the sketch comedy group without a physical UCB location in Manhattan for the first time since 1999.

Gethard’s late-night show is a fitting event to kick off the new UCB space. It began as a live show at UCB in 2009, then moved to public access TV in Manhattan in 2011. It then got a 20-episode run on Fusion, followed by a switch to truTV, where it ran for 26 more episodes before it was canceled in 2018.

The show has re-entered the conversation among comedy fans in recent months after the success of John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, which evoked anarchic vibes reminiscent of TCGS.

TCGS “had some legendary moments and legendarily bad ratings,” the event description says. “In 2018 the whole thing came to an end. Until now.”

Here’s the bad news: Tickets appeared to sell out within 25 minutes of Gethard announcing the show on Instagram. (It’s unclear if UCB plans on livestreaming the show.)

The Chris Gethard Show at UCB is scheduled for Friday, September 13 at 9 p.m.
