SNL’s Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson Tease Super Bowl Spots

Super Bowl Sunday is shaping up to include some titans of Saturday Night Live.

Veteran SNLers Kenan Thompson and Mikey Day will both star in Super Bowl commercials when the Big Game airs Sunday, February 8, on NBC.

Thompson has teamed up with DJ Khaled to front an ad for pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. Thompson teased the spot on social media this week. “I am in something big with @djKhaled. What do you think it is?,” he posted, setting a February 8 reveal date.

The video itself, however, gives the details away.

“Big news, America” I’m in a Big Game commercial,” Thompson announces from atop a water tower.

Standing on the ground down below, DJ Khaled shares that he’ll be appearing in the ad as well.  But Khaled’s not the only co-star. Thompson’s former SNL castmate Ana Gasteyer will also appear in the ad, she revealed in another teaser. “A hundred million people are going to be watching this Big Game commercial,” Gasteyer says, stressing over what to wear.

Thompson has already been fronting a football-centric campaign for Jim Beam, though there are no signs that he’ll also show up in an ad for the whiskey brand on game day.

Thanks to his moonlight gig as a game show host, Mikey Day is set to star in a spot of his own for skincare brand Eos, which dropped a teaser on Tuesday. Day, from the set of his Netflix show Is It Cake?, greets a bust of himself made of cake before cutting into the top of his head with a knife. Day has hosted the popular cake-baking competition series since 2022.

“Is it cake? Is it Eos?” the caption asks, teasing the date of Super Bowl Sunday. “We’ll save the answer for game day.”

According to Beauty Independent, the Eos ad will promote the brand’s Cashmere Body Mists, using Day’s cake-busting experience to play on “the confusion between smelling and looking like dessert[,] and actually being dessert.” (Eos is also partnering with food delivery service Gopuff to sell actual cakes that look like their products.)

But the Super Bowl spotlight is not just reserved for current SNL cast members. At least three former players are getting their own airtime.

Aside from Gasteyer’s role in the Novo Nordisk spot, Andy Samberg is set to parody Neil Diamond for mayonnaise brand Hellman’s, playing a character named “Meal Diamond,” and Tim Robinson (now a prestige TV creator/star) plays a corporate mastermind in a spot for the software firm Rippling.
