Devon Walker is entering the podcast game. The Saturday Night Live cast member is launching own music-centric comedy podcast, My Favorite Lyrics with Devon Walker, announcing the project today with a self-deprecating apology video.
In a just-posted Instagram video, Walker tells his followers he’s going “against god” by bringing yet another podcast from a comic into the world, and he echoes that tongue-in-cheek remorse in the trailer for the project (below). “Unfortunately, I’m starting a podcast,” he says. “To be honest, I never thought this was gonna be me.”
But worry not: My Favorite Lyrics isn’t like most music podcasts. “You’ve heard a lot of music podcasts, right? A lot of them are really intellectual, they’re really smart,” he explains. “Well, this isn’t like that. This one’s stupid.”
Each episode of My Favorite Lyrics will see Walker welcome a different guest to discuss the lyrics they love—whether they’re “iconic, idiotic or accidentally profound.”
“I came to this idea via something I love: rappers saying some of the silliest sentences you’ve ever heard,” Walker told Deadline, which first reported the news. “So don’t think about it as a podcast, think of it as a labor of love. That is also literally a podcast.”
My Favorite Lyrics’ guest lineup is set to include a few familiar faces from late night. Former SNL writer Alex English will serve as the show’s first guest, with future episodes to include Sam Jay, former Daily Show correspondent Jaboukie Young-White , and recent Late Night with Seth Meyers guest Sydnee Washington.
The podcast is produced by Lauren Mandel, whose credits include SNL, SNL50’s homecoming concert and red carpet event, the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, and The Kids Tonight Show. Mandel also produces Walker and English’s monthly standup show with Gary Richardson, DAD.
Walker joined the cast of SNL in 2022, and was promoted to repertory player for Season 50.
My Favorite Lyrics is set to debu on April 29 on all podcast platforms, with full video episodes and exclusive content available on YouTube. Fans can also follow the show on TikTok.
