SNL Promo Leans Into Stranger Things Conformity Gate Theory

Stranger Things fans still holding out hope for a super-secret, new, final episode came close to getting one thanks to Saturday Night Live.

Even with the Netflix megahit behind him, Finn Wolfhard continues to be haunted by Vecna in a new promo for his first-time SNL hosting stint this weekend. In it, Mike Wheeler’s portrayer teams up with Kam Patterson to do battle against Stranger Things’ main villain.

The promo begins with Patterson giving Wolfhard a tour of the SNL offices, where they quickly catch Ben Marshall PhotoShopping the face of Stranger Things cast member Gaten Matarazzo onto a male model’s chiseled body. That awkward encounter is quickly interrupted by flickering lights in the office. At the end of the hallway, heavy fog pours out of an open door awash to a bright red room.

“It’s Vecna. He’s back,” Wolfhard concludes, referring to the monster at the center of Stranger Things’ last two seasons.

“Get behind me,” he tells Patterson, breaking a broom in half for protection. “I’ll handle this.”

With Patterson in tow and armed with a spray bottle of cleaning fluid, the two burst into the room to find something less sinister: a sick Sarah Sherman, clutching her stomach.

“I had greasy beef cubes again,” she explains. “Extra spicy.”

“This is one of her good days, too,” Patterson notes.

Fresh off of Stranger Things‘ December 31 series finale of, Wolfhard makes his SNL debut this Saturday, January 17, alongside musical guest A$AP Rocky. The episode kicks off a run of three consecutive shows for SNL this month, with newly minted Golden Globe winner Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) and Alexander Skarsgård next in queue to host.
