Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard to Host First SNL of 2026

Stranger Things will be back in the spotlight when NBC’s Saturday Night Live returns from its holiday break.

During this weekend’s final outing of 2025, hosted by Ariana Grande and featuring musical guest Cher, it was announced that Stranger Things original cast member Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike Wheeler) will make his SNL hosting debut on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Stranger Things will release Volume 2 of its final season on Christmas Day, followed by its 125-minute series finale on New Year’s Eve. Previous stars of the show who have hosted SNL include David Harbour and, in 2002, Winona Ryder.

Serving as musical guest for SNL’s first show of 2026 will be rapper A$AP Rocky, who previously cameoed on the show in May 2018.

It’s not exactly the musical pairing Wolfhard once had in mind. In an October 2024 interview with People.com, he said that if he were ever to lord over Studio 8H, “I think it’d be fun to have an indie rock band or a ’90s alt band” as his musical guest. “I think that’d be cool.”

Also on Wolfhard’s SNL hosting wish list is a reprisal of the “Underground Rock Festival” sketch, which featured Jason Sudeikis as DJ Supersoak and Nasim Pedrad as Lil’ Blaster. “I was watching that recently and I thought it was so funny because it’s just an excuse to basically name a bunch of random bands,” Wolfhard said. “I think that sketch would be really funny to bring back.”
