James Austin Johnson won’t allow himself much time to rest once Saturday Night Live’s hiatus begins.
The repertory player will hit the road this summer for a run of stand-up shows, dubbing the tour “The Ideal Man.”
Johnson announced the tour on social media, posting a menacing photo of himself (seen below) cradling a glass of wine. Curiously, Johnson’s poster caused some confusion on X, where the platform automatically flagged it as being AI-generated; Johnson clarified that AI was not used in the post.
Johnson’s run of dates kick off later this month with a local stop at New York City’s BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, on Wednesday, May 20. That show will come just days after Johnson wraps his fifth season on SNL, which will stage its series finale (with host Will Ferrell and musical guest Paul McCartney) May 16.
From there, Johnson will visit 16 cities from June through August, often putting on multiple shows—including as many as five performances in Dallas (June 11-13) and Nashville (August 27-29).
Like every other SNL cast member, whether Johnson will return to the sketch show after this summer remains to be seen—but LateNighter’s new Exit Index gives a JAJ return very solid odds.
Johnson’s upcoming projects also include lending his voice to The Angry Birds Movie 3, set to hit theaters December 23. Outside of SNL, he’ll next be seen on the small screen in the season finale of the CBS comedy Ghosts on Thursday, May 21.
