A miniature Saturday Night Live cast reunion is headed to Apple TV+. Deadline reports that SNL alums Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett have been tapped for recurring roles on the sophomore season of Platonic.
The trio spent several years on SNL together. Bryant joined the cast in 2012 and stayed for a whopping 10 seasons before exiting in 2022. Mooney and Bennett—who first crossed paths as USC students in the improv group Commedus Interruptus (where they also met Good Neighbor collaborator and future SNL writer Nick Rutherford)—both became cast members in 2013. Bennett eventually departed the show in 2021, with Mooney leaving one year later.
During her long tenure on SNL, Bryant famously impersonated celebrities like Adele and Rebel Wilson, along with conservative politicians like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Ted Cruz. She earned two Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy nominations for her work on the show—plus one for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the 2013 Christmas episode’s “Home for the Holiday (Twin Bed)” tune.
Mooney was known for his person-on-the-street interviews and bringing his YouTube characters—such as the 4/20 Weed-Smoking Guy and Chris Fitzpatrick—to the show. He returned to SNL earlier this year with a cameo appearance in the pre-taped “Papyrus 2” sketch with Ryan Gosling.
As for Bennett, he garnered recognition for his CEO character Richard Patterson, along with his impersonations of political figures including Bill Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Mike Pence, Mitch Connell, and more. He’s part of the cast of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie.
Platonic was co-created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller, who also serve as co-directors and writers. The comedy series centers on Sylvia (Rose Byrne), a stay-at-home mom who reconnects with her childhood best friend, Will (Seth Rogen), who is recently divorced.
Per Deadline, Season 2 will see the characters “deal with shifting family dynamics, career pressures, and the pursuit of their full potential” as they figure out “what it means to be best friends in your 40s.” Specific details about Bryant, Mooney, and Bennett’s roles are still under wraps.
Platonic Season 1 is available to stream now on Apple TV+.
