Seth Meyers Cheers Women’s Olympics Hockey, Weighs In on Colin Jost’s Bobsled Trial

Seth Meyers was on hand at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games for Team USA’s gold medal win in women’s hockey, which he hailed as “one of the greatest sporting events I’ve ever seen live.”

Team USA on Thursday defeated Canada in overtime, by a score of 2-1, to clinch the Americans’ first Olympic gold medal in the event since the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.
Appearing this morning on NBC’s Today from NBC Sports’ Winter Olympics studio in Milan, Meyers hailed the overtime game as “one of the greatest sporting events I’ve ever seen live,” adding: “It was such good vibes in there.”

Meyers also gave a “shout out to Canada’s team and fans,” saying “the spirit of camaraderie was just wonderful in there.

“Obviously the Canadian team was bummed,” he noted, but “those fans just stuck around” through the medal ceremony. “It was a great night.”

Next up, the host of NBC’s Late Night is “very excited” to catch tonight’s men’s hockey semifinal match-up between Team USA and Slovakia, both of whom (as well as Canada vs. Czechia) are seeking a spot in the gold medal game.

Late night and the Winter Olympics “crossed over” earlier this week when Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost ventured to Lake Placid, N.Y., to try his hand at bobsledding. Witnessing Jost’s experience gave Meyers a new regard for that event.

Asked which Olympic sport he himself would like to sample, Meyers responded, “I would have said bobsled until I saw Colin Jost, and now thats a hard no.” As Meyers explained, “If you’ve ever see me in the NBC gym, you might see that I have a curler’s body.”

Meyers went on to preview Late Night’s post-Olympics return, which this coming week will feature guests Jon Hamm, Lizzo, and first-year SNL cast member Ben Marshall, among others.

Plus, “I’ll be regaling the audience with my Olympic glory stories,” he promised with a wink.
