Seth Meyers is harnessing the power of dad jokes for a noble cause.
On Wednesday, August 28, the Late Night With Seth Meyers host will perform a stand-up show at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center to benefit the Friends Of The Chilmark Preschool.
According to the organization’s board president Rebekah Thomson, the school is currently at capacity and, as a result, has had to turn local families away. The town of Chilmark, Massachusetts—which is located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, and is where Meyers has brought his three young children to every summer since he first visited in 2008—recently approved plans for a second preschool.
The preschool committee reportedly needs to raise $3.5 million for the new facility, which is where Meyers comes in. Thomson told The Vineyard Gazette that the Emmy-winning comedian reached out and offered to help in whatever way he could.
“To be able to bring this kind of awareness, positivity, and excitement to the project is a dream,” Thomson said. “Seth made it clear that he was willing to help and we jumped at the opportunity. Tickets are selling quickly and we are thrilled.”
Meyers called his involvement a “no-brainer” for him and his wife, Alexi Ashe. “We’re lucky enough that our kids go to camp with a bunch of kids who go to that preschool,” he said. “You want an organized space that can also support chaos. Over the course of the day, a lot of different things—be that art supplies or blocks or books—will at some point be strewn over the floor.”
“It’s nice to know that there are these places where our kids can start to experiment with creativity and learning,” the late-night host added. “When I walk into a preschool, I wish that my kids were dropping me off. I can’t remember the last time someone gave me a full 90 minutes to finger paint.”
Naturally, the show is expected to include a hearty dose of Meyers’ specialty: dad jokes. “No matter how little you like a dad joke before you become a father, it becomes impossible to hold them back,” he said. “Once you become a dad, it’s pretty much all you can think about.”
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET. The committee also hopes to sell sponsorships that include a meet-and-greet with Meyers before the show kicks off. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
