Seth Meyers continues to subtly respond to Donald Trump’s recent social media attack—this time in the form of a YouTube outro.
For those just tuning in: Trump wrote in an a post Truth Social early last week that he “got stuck” watching Meyers recently, describing him as “dumb,” “a moron” and a “marble mouth.” Arguing that Late Night with Seth Meyers and other shows engage in “political hits” rather than entertainment, Trump declared that NBC parent company Comcast should “pay a BIG price.”
While all eyes were on Meyers to see how he’d respond to Trump’s insults and threats, the host only addressed the then-incoming president’s remarks obliquely, commenting on his show last Wednesday, ” It has come to my attention that sometimes people who do not care for me get stuck watching my show. And to those people I could just say: You have my sympathy, and I hope you get a TV set that allows you to change the channel.”
And that was that… Until Thursday night, when he recorded his latest installment of Corrections, where he routinely tasks his graphics department with creating new outro videos (or “tags”) that get placed at the end of his “A Closer Look” segments on YouTube. While videos traditionally end with a still image, Meyers’ has made a running joke of inserting these startling tag gags.
In the latest, Meyers is staring at the camera closed-mouthed, then drops his jaw to unleash a torrent of marbles. (There’s also a spider on his head—a separate, non-Trump reference from the Corrections episode.)
The new tag made its debut at the end of Monday night’s “A Closer Look” YouTube upload:
PLEASE President Trump – don’t call people dumb, stupid, words to that effect. The man that so graciously signed “The Art of the Deal” for me many years ago was smart, kind, and honorable. He would NEVER be disrespectful to anyone. PLEASE President Trump – SHOW YOUR PEOPLE YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT!!
He is NOT better than that. He has made that obvious too many times to count. It’s time you started believing that he is who he says he is.
