Seth Meyers Gets His Own Rock Anthem In New Starbucks Ad

Seth Meyers is amping up his relationship with Starbucks in a new ad that premiered on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night.

Meyers’ day-to-day life at Late Night gets a classic rock narration in “Eye of Seth Meyers,” the new spot for Starbucks’ new sparkling Iced Energy drinks, made in partnership with PepsiCo.

Meyers and Late Night have history working with both companies on previous brand integrations. This one, like the show’s most recent collaboration with Pepsi, aired during commercial time on Late Night but got an in-show tease upon its debut Thursday night.

Sitting at his desk with a can of the product in front of him, Meyers joked that the show partnered with the energy drink because it “helps me get through these Closer Looks, which some people say are too long.”

In the commercial, the host is seen getting ready for a taping of his show. When he goes to sip a Starbucks Iced Energy drink, he’s serenaded with shouts of “Seth” to the melody of the ‘80s Survivor hit “Eye of the Tiger.” A rock band follows him around as he prepares for a show with cue card king Wally Feresten and encounters writer John Lutz.

Meyers’ ad is part of a larger campaign for Starbucks Iced Energy that kicked off last month with a different commercial featuring the same classic rock band (real-life cover supergroup Legends of Classic Rock) singing a similar “Eye of the Tiger” homage to an office worker named Roy.

(The entire campaign is callback to the 2004 commercial Starbucks used to launch its first ready-to-drink beverages, with the real Survivor appearing to perform its own “Eye of the Tiger” parody for a different office worker named Glenn.)

After Meyers threw to commercial, NBC aired the one-minute ad starring Meyers, immediately followed by the campaign’s “Roy” ad.

Meyers has since posted the Starbucks ad to his personal Instagram page. If past history is any guide, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it air again during commercial time on Late Night with Seth Meyers—and perhaps elsewhere.

A rock band follows him around ? I don’t know every one but those are former members of Quiet Riot, White Lion, XYZ, Great White, BulletBoys.

what a perfectly Awful commercial. Survivor was bad the first time around with that song. Seth Meyers only makes it worse.
