Jimmy Kimmel Live! is dark this week, which gave its host the chance to do something he has never done before: be a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers. And the timing could not have been better.
After Meyers introduced Kimmel as “a fantastic comedian, writer, and human being who is also the longest tenured late-night host currently on TV,” the two wasted little time getting right down to business. For Meyers, that meant congratulating Kimmel for playing such a prominent role in Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
Kimmel accepted the kudos, but admitted that “it doesn’t compare to making so much fun of [Trump] at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that he actually ran for president… which was your fault. But it was exciting. You know, you put in the work and it really pays off.”
While Kimmel may technically be on vacation this week, being so close to the courthouse where Trump is spending his days has him itching to pay the former president a visit—but with Meyers in tow.
“What I would love to do is for you and I to go down there,” Kimmel explained. “And as a gesture of goodwill, because we are human beings—nice people—I think we should bring him a whole bunch of little bottles of ketchup. Because you’re not allowed to eat in the courtroom [and] not allowed to drink in the courtroom; ketchup falls into that kind of gray area.”
Meyers clearly thinks Kimmel is onto something.
“How close do you think we could get to him—and I mean emotionally?,” Kimmel asked.
“The funny thing is, based on the amount of people who are there, we could just go and wait in line and get in,” Meyers said. “He’d be so rattled if we were there. It would be like that SNL sketch where all of a sudden Kenan [Thompson] realized Beavis and Butt-Head are there. He’d have the same reaction.”
“Except even Beavis and Butt-Headier than that,” Kimmel concluded.
Stay tuned.
