Sarah Sherman Signs on to Netflix Comedy from SNL Writers

Sarah Sherman’s next film project will reunite the comic actress with two of her Saturday Night Live collaborators.

Sherman has signed on to star in the new Netflix film Roommates, an ensemble comedy also featuring Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll. The film is written by SNL writers Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O’Sullivan.

Per Deadline, which broke the story this morning, Roommates centers on a budding friendship that turns sour when two college freshmen move in together. The film will be the third feature from director Chandler Levack.

The project also reunites Sherman with Sadie Sandler, daughter of SNL alum Adam Sandler. The two previously appeared together in the 2023 Netflix hit You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.

Outside of SNL, Sherman has built a varied acting résumé with roles on General Hospital, the Chucky series, and Hulu’s upcoming Untitled BriTANicK Pizza Movie. She’s also voiced characters in two episodes of Primos, made a voice cameo in Severance, and is set to appear in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter.

Fowlie and O’Sullivan joined the SNL writing staff in Season 48, one year after Sherman’s debut on the show. They’re best known for co-writing the popular “Domingo” sketches.

Fowlie’s other credits include HBO Max’s The Other Two and the Netflix holiday special A Nonsense Christmas starring Sabrina Carpenter.

Director Chandler Levack made her feature debut with the acclaimed 2022 film I Like Movies, which earned praise at both the Toronto and Calgary International Film Festivals. Her second film, Mile End Kicks, is slated to premiere at TIFF later this year.
