Saturday Night Live may have booked its next big cast member homecoming. Chris Rock is said to be hosting the show on December 14, 2024.
That’s what Rock told an audience at New York’s Comedy Cellar during a recent set, LateNighter has learned.
So far, SNL hasn’t announced any hosts beyond this coming weekend. During the Charli XCX-hosted episode on November 16, the show revealed that actor Paul Mescal will host with musical guest Shaboozey on December 7.
If Rock’s booking for the following week does come to pass, it will mark the comic’s fourth time hosting SNL. Rock—who was a cast member from 1990-1993—previously hosted in 1996, 2014, and 2020. He’s also made eleven cameos on other episodes, most recently popping in during the October 2021 episode hosted by Kim Kardashian for the dating show sketch “The Dream Guy.”
In March 2022, Rock found himself at the center of one of the biggest pop culture moments in recent history when he was slapped by Will Smith while hosting the Oscars. (SNL addressed the slap in a sketch on its following episode without showing Rock.)
Lately, Rock has been narrating and executive producing Everybody Still Hates Chris, the animated sequel series to his autobiographical live-action sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. Last year, he brought a new standup special, Selective Outrage, to Netflix as the streamer’s first-ever globally live-streamed event.
Last month, Variety reported Rock’s next project will be the movie Misty Green, a “contemporary tale of Hollywood excess and inequity” that the comedian will write, direct, and star in.
Of course, Chris Rock is one of the likeliest faces to show up at SNL’s upcoming 50th anniversary special in February, when the show trots out the dozens of hall-of-fame cast members who have passed through 8H over the years. But unless Rock was yanking everyone at the Comedy Cellar’s chain, it sounds like SNL fans won’t have to wait that long to see him back at home base.
