Ratings numbers for TV’s traditional late-night shows may be on a steady decline, but it’s an entirely different story over at Gutfeld!, which saw huge viewership gains this year.
According to year-end Nielsen ratings data released by Fox News, the late-night style show hosted by Greg Gutfeld grew its nightly average to 2,500,000 total viewers, a 35% increase over last year. Among viewers aged 25-54, it was a similar story, with a nightly average of 355,000 viewers, up 33% year-over-year.
Gutfeld! now draws the most total viewers across all of cable TV at 10pm ET, and is the highest rated show across all of cable news among viewers 25-54.
As we’ve previously reported, Gutfeld shattered its own ratings records twice this year, first in May when a visit from Bill Maher drew 2.9 total viewers, and then again in September, when Donald Trump joined the show’s panel, commanding nearly 5 million total viewers to become the highest-rated episode in the program’s history.
How do these numbers compare to the traditional late night shows? In short, it depends on how you look at the numbers.
Although Q4 numbers have yet to arrive for the other shows, Gutfeld!‘s total viewer numbers compare favorably with those of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for the year’s first three quarters, and are greater than each of the other traditional late-night shows.
As reps for the other shows are quick to point out, however, the pool of viewers watching television when Gutfeld! airs at 10pm ET and 7pm PT is far greater than those watching at 11:35pm and 12:35am ET/PT, which fall fall squarely in the time period that carries TV’s official designation of “late night.” (By that definition, Gutfeld! airs during “primetime” on the east coast, and in “early fringe” on the west coast.)
The one metric that it seems no one can dispute is this: Gutfeld!‘s growth over the last 12 months is unparalleled.

Thanks for recognizing the success of Gutfeld! Even though the show is not considered “late night” it would be nice to see its inclusion in your daily reporting! Enjoy latenighter immensely, but the top show should be include. Maybe “ latenighter & more”. Lol

So looked forward to this show every night. Since Gutfeld has been out, he’s show has not been
enjoyable to watch. The individuals hosting the show are just not entertaining, do well on the host, but do not know how to take Gutfeld’s place.
Hopefully he comes back soon, as this is not a show I will continue to watch.

the show is more entertaining now that gutfeld is on leave. the jokes are funnier and the casts laughter is sincere,unlike gutfelds irritatingly phony laughter. Tyrus should stop the snorting ,it’s unbecoming and distracting. I never miss a show,been watching since it’s conception.

Ha. I watch Gutfeld every week night at 3 a.m. It wouldn’t matter what time he airs, people will watch because we are all sick of the pathetic,pearl clutching drama queens that peddle their doom and gloom and fear mongering.

I’m a little older than then the 26 to 54 year-old viewer… I love how intelligence this show is! They talk about politics, they use humor and facts and it’s just a pleasure to watch! I had to watch it before the election because I had to Hear Tyrus tell us it’ll be over at 10:30 PM! There were a couple moments when I thought we might lose this election… But thank you Tyrus. You kept me going… And congratulations to Greg Gutfeld and his wife… Parenthood is very rewarding and your little girl is lucky to have you as papa !

How can ratings be good or even fair without gutfeld. Katy Timpf as a host is beyond bad, brutal to listen to her silly, superficial, self-absorbed comments. And that unceasing artificial laugh at everything! Fox is underestimating loyal viewers by putting her on. She like Kamala is empty suit.

Get rid of that Kay Tipf she ruins the show. If she acted and dressed like a lady in stead of a slut with he ass and legs maybe your ratings would be better. She screams when she talks and laughs like a hillbilly!!!!

Kat used to blurt out , attacking guests who get laughs. Not even up to that, that these days , uses that obnoxious phony laugh to get the camera on her.
Some weeks ago, don’t recall the guests, it was all guys, except for bad penny Kat, every one was having a great time. I was actually lol-ing at home, Kat couldn’t take it and GG put an end to the hilarity right away.
Tyrus joins in with the mean girl behavior scolding guests who do get laughs.
Kat can insult belittle any one , but guests better not say any thing to her.
If GG wasn’t so jealous, he’d give Dennis Miller , or heck, let’s see what Chappell would get for ratings.
