SNL Cracks Nielsen Streaming Charts

Why it takes nearly a month for Nielsen to release its streaming charts we don’t know, but the measurement company today revealed that Saturday Night Live made its first appearance on its list of the ten most-streamed shows the week after its milestone 50th Anniversary Special.

With 863 million minutes viewed between February 17-23, SNL was the seventh most-viewed show of the week. That was enough to outrank other top performers like Severance, The White Lotus, and Grey’s Anatomy, but not Zero Day, Reacher, or Love is Blind.  Of course, those shows don’t also air on terrestrial TV. (All told, NBC says SNL’s celebratory weekend drew nearly 4 billion minutes viewed across all platforms, which is more than twice that of each of the week’s top ranked streaming-only shows.)

There was more good news for the NBC-owned Peacock, which has been the streaming home of Saturday Night Live since the platform’s launch: a full 32% of SNL‘s streaming minutes during the week of  February 17-23 were attributed to the content from the show preceding Season 50, indicating that the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations prompted many viewers to dig back into the show’s deep library.

In addition, Nielsen says a full 54% of viewers watching SNL content on Peacock that week were in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demo.

Saturday Night Live is on a two-week break. It returns March 29th for the first of three new episodes in a row, with host Mikey Madison and musical guest Morgan Wallen.

The numbers have to be checked , and rechecked. And then an independent “checker” comes in to make sure it all looks ok. It is a process that is done manually, two times . Just to be extremely accurate, as the Companies are paying huge $$$ for the information.
