Mikey Day Teases Return of His Son to Saturday Night Live

Mikey Day‘s son looks to be on his way back to Saturday Night Live—possibly as soon as this weekend’s show.

Abbott Day had a memorable featured role on the show in a COVID-19 lockdown-era sketch, playing a kid with pranks that moved from Dennis the Menace-style to just plain mean. He was seven years-old at the time.

“We’re talking about getting him into [another] pre-tape,” Day revealed to SheKnows, “I don’t know if that’ll happen this week, but hopefully soon.”

Day spoke on the red carpet as he and the rest of the SNL cast attended the American Museum of Natural History’s Annual Gala Thursday night.

The Is It Cake? host explained the difficulties of getting kids involved in TV, adding, “There’s a bunch of paperwork you gotta do for when children appear, so we’ll see.”

Abbott has appeared in two sketches for the show, his first being a smaller role in the December 2019 pretape, “Children’s Clothing Ad.” The ad parody featured parents struggling to stick cute holiday outfits on their kids as the little ones complain that they’re itchy, hot, and uncomfortable.

Day played parent to multiple kids in the sketch alongside Heidi Gardner as his partner, struggling to get their kids outfitted with those issues causing conflict in Day and Gardner’s relationship.

But was Abbott’s second appearance, in May 2020’s “Dad Prank Video,” that was his star turn.

As menacing child YouTuber Brandon, Abbott told his viewers that he had a “corny-ass dad,” before proceeding to terrorize daddy Day with jump scares, Nerf darts, thumbtacks, and a series of tech pranks that parents of Gen Z may want to shield from their kin.

He also branded photos of Day with a stamp reading “B*TCH” multiple times and edited audio of him speaking to say that he hates women.

An updated take on Brandon could be a perfect fit for the now 12-year-old, but the elder Day declined to share who his son is set to play on the show.
