SNL Brings Back Mike Myers’ Elon Musk

One upside of Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s recent reconciliation? It cleared the way for Mike Myers to revive his Musk impression on Saturday Night Live for the first time since last April.

Myers’ return came during Saturday night’s cold open, which found James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump hosting an imaginary—but all-too-believable—awards ceremony dubbed “The Trumps.” The premise: various presenters take the stage to hand out trophies…to Trump himself.

Among the presenters were Trump administration officials J.D. Vance (Jeremy Culhane), Stephen Miller (Andrew Dismukes), and the president of Agentina Javier Milei (Marcello Hernandez).

But it was Myers’ Musk who stole the spotlight, appearing to introduce an in memoriam of sorts, set to “a mournful rendition of the America’s Funniest Home Videos theme.

Saturday’s episode marked Myers’ fourth appearance as Musk opposite Johnson’s Trump. Speaking recently on Jesse David Fox’s Good One podcast, Johnson described how meaningful it was to share the stage with Myers, relaying the meticulous way the veteran comic approaches his work.

“When I was doing cold opens with him, his papers were covered in notes and highlights and all of this sort of hieroglyphics all over it that meant something specific to him,” Johnson said. “He kind of had it rolled up like a scroll. He’d done a lot to his papers of lines. That was amazing to see up close—and then get to rehearse the scenes with him and see the journey of that, just as a comedy fan.”

Yeah, we did not need a trump cold open on the day that Alex Pretti was murdered in front of our eyes.
