Melissa Villaseñor’s life sounds a lot better in Spanish, especially when she sings about it.
The former Saturday Night Live cast member has released a new song about just that. Titled “Life’s Better in Spanish,” the track is a collaboration with comedy band Wolves of Glendale.
The song finds Villaseñor singing about her life via seemingly beautiful Spanish phrases, only to reveal their English translations are much less impressive (but also relatable)—like “I eat plain oatmeal every morning,” or “Well, it’s 11 a.m. I guess I’ll nap.”
“My life sounds better in Spanish,” Villaseñor sings in the chorus. “In English, it totally sucks.”
The track even got the full music video treatment, courtesy of director Ben Joyner.
The comedian has reportedly performed acoustic renditions of the song at recent live shows, which she called “my favorite thing to share in my shows lately.”
Villaseñor became one of SNL’s first Latina cast members when she joined in 2016, where she became known for her deep well of impressions.
The song is a rare live-action project for Villaseñor since she left Saturday Night Live. Since departing the show in 2022, she has lent her voice to a number of series, including Primos, Adventure Time, and Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight. She also maintains a popular Instagram account devoted to her artwork, and has a sizable catalog of other original music for fans to explore.
