Marcello Hernández Nabs ‘Major Supporting Role’ in New Kevin Hart Flick

He plays The Movie Guy on “Weekend Update,” and now Marcello Hernández is becoming one in real life.

As Variety first reported earlier today, The Saturday Night Live booked his first major live-action film role opposite Kevin Hart in the upcoming Netflix movie 72 Hours.

Hart, who is also producing, stars in the film as a 40-year-old executive who joins a bachelor party thrown by a group of random twentysomethings after they accidentally add him to their group text.

Described as a “major supporting role” for Hernández, the comedian will play the groom’s Best Man.

Hernández has had a big year, with his viral Domingo character upping his profile on SNL and recently netting him an honorary Webby Award. He also recently appeared in an episode of the FX/Hulu series Dying for Sex and is set to appear in the voice cast for Angry Birds 3.

While Hart has hosted SNL three times, he’s never done so alongside Hernández, who joined the cast of the sketch show just three years ago. It’s become increasingly common for SNL stars to take on major film roles while still in the midst of their tenures on the show. Recent examples include Chloe Fineman with Summer of 69 and Bowen Yang in The Wedding Banquet.

72 Hours is co-produced by Sony, whose slate also includes the SNL alum-filled picture The Breadwinner.

A release date for 72 Hours has not yet been announced, but with Angry Birds 3 not due out until 2027, Hart’s Netflix comedy may well serve as Hernández’s big screen debut.
