Late Night With Seth Meyers to Air 1500th Episode Tonight

It’s a year of milestones for Late Night With Seth Meyers. Just a month after celebrating his tenth anniversary hosting NBC’s 12:35 a.m. show, Meyers is set to tape his 1500th episode tonight.

While we don’t expect the host to mark the occasion in any significant way (he’s said to find milestone celebrations awkward), it’s yet another rite of passage for his show. He’s already taped more episodes of Late Night than his predecessor, Jimmy Fallon, and is poised to surpass the show’s creator, David Letterman, who taped more than 1800 episodes of the show before jumping to CBS. (He’s got a ways to go before he catches up with Conan O’Brien, whose whopping 2,725 episodes set a very high bar.)

Like each of his predecessors, he’s made the show his own in his ten years behind the Late Night desk, eschewing the traditional monologue, dropping the suit (but for special occasions), and focusing more on political humor than the other late night shows on broadcast. In many ways, Meyers’ Late Night more closely resembles The Daily Show than it does any of the show’s earlier iterations.

While the prototypical late-night host is one whose singular focus day-in and day-out is on their show, Meyers maintains an impressive list of extracurriculars.

In addition to regularly performing standup (he’s set to tape his second comedy special this June), he hosts a podcast with his brother Josh called Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers . He also co-created the Emmy nominated IFC series Documentary Now, and wrote the 2022 childrens book “I’m Not Scared, You’re Scared,” which debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times best sellers list.

Most recently, he produced and appeared in Good One: A Show About Jokes, a documentary streaming on Peacock that follows comedian Mike Birbiglia on the road as he builds a new comedy set.

In recent interviews, Meyers has given no indication of a desire to end his show or to slow down, but with his current contract (signed in 2021) set to expire sometime in 2025, he will face a decision point sometime in the near future.
