NCAA March Madness and a Jimmy Kimmel Live! dark week threw a wrench into the late-night TV Nielsen ratings race for the week of March 25, 2024.
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was the only 11:35 late-night offering to air original episodes all five days last week. The show averaged 1,494,000 total linear viewers and 227,000 P18-49 viewers at 11:35 p.m. for the week of March 25. That’s up +1% in total viewers and up +6% in P18-49 viewers from what the program averaged the previous week (starting March 18, 2024).
NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 1,011,000 total viewers and 160,000 P18-49 viewers this past week, +34% and +33%, respectively, from the previous week.
CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert aired original episodes on Monday through Wednesday, but televised repeats on Thursday and Friday due to the network’s March Madness coverage. The show’s Monday-Wednesday episodes averaged 277,000 P18-49 viewers and 2,793,000 total linear viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. The Late Show aired exclusively repeats the week before. Relative to the last time the show aired original episodes (week starting March 11, 2024), The Late Show is +14% in total viewers and +5% in P18-49 viewers.
CBS’ After Midnight, like its Late Show lead-in, televised originals on Monday through Wednesday and aired repeats on Thursday and Friday, post-March Madness coverage. The originals averaged 145,000 P18-49 viewers and 706,000 total viewers Monday-Wednesday. Similar to its Late Show lead-in, the show aired exclusively repeats the week before. Relative to the last time the show aired original episodes (week of March 11, 2024), After Midnight is +5% in total viewers and +4% in P18-49 viewers.
ABC News’ Nightline averaged 857,000 total viewers and 117,000 P18-49 viewers for the week of March 25. That’s -2% in total viewers, but +1% in P18-49 viewers from the week before.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! was dark this past week and did not submit Nielsen viewer data for its repeat airings of prior episodes.
Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was hosted by Jon Stewart on Monday, and Jordan Klepper Tuesday through Thursday. It averaged 1,038,000 total viewers and 194,000 P18-49 viewers for the week of March 25, per live-plus-three-data. The Daily Show was dark the week before, but compared with its most recent week of original episodes (starting March 11, 2024), the program is -2% in total viewers but +4% in P18-49 viewers.
