Late Night Ratings: Week of August 5, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night weekly live-plus-three ratings on a three (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

For the second consecutive week, late-night weekly ratings were skewed due to NBC preempting its shows for Paris Olympics coverage, and ABC and CBS airing exclusively repeats of their respective late-night shows.

Still, someone had to win the Nielsen weekly ratings race, of course, and it was CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show which split first place for the week of August 5, 2024.

For the week starting August 5, The Late Show averaged 1,139,000 total viewers with 133,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -1% and -6%, respectively, from the week before (week starting July 29). The Late Show‘s week of August 5 Nielsen ratings averages are based exclusively off of show rebroadcasts, as was the case the week prior.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 957,000 total viewers with 144,000 P18-49 for the week of July 29, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s +3% and +15% , respectively, from the week before. Similar to The Late ShowJimmy Kimmel Live! week of August 5 Nielsen ratings averages are based off of data exclusively from rebroadcasts, as was the case the week prior.

Following Colbert, CBS’ After Midnight averaged only 432,000 total viewers with 80,000 P18-49 this past week, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -2% in total viewers but +7% among P18-49 from the week prior. After Midnight‘s week of August 5 Nielsen averages are based exclusively off of data from rebroadcasts, as was the case the week prior.

ABC’s Nightline averaged 695,000 total viewers with 104,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s +9% and +24%, respectively, from the week prior. Nightline‘s week of August 5 averages are based on Nielsen data from five first-run episodes (Mon-Fri).

The Daily Show averaged 892,000 total viewers with 160,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m. for the week of August 5, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. Compared with the previous week of Daily Show episodes, the program shed -3% in total viewers and -1% in P18-49 viewers.
