A solid Nielsen ratings week for CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert continued on Wednesday, September 11, as the show once again out-performed its 11:35 p.m. counterparts both in total viewers and among P18-49.
The Late Show averaged 1,944,000 total viewers with 252,000 P18-49 Wednesday night, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -30% and -43%, respectively, from the previous night’s episode, (which received a substantial presidential debate audience boost), but up +14% in total viewers and +18% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Wednesday episode. Samuel L. Jackson, and Amy Ryan were Colbert’s guests Wednesday.
NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! split second place in the timeslot. Fallon averaged 1,182,000 total viewers with 220,000 P18-49 on Wednesday at 11:35 p.m. That’s -10% in total viewers and -26% in P18-49 from the night before; but +15% and +28%, respectively, from the Wednesday before. Kathryn Hahn, and Jayson Tatum were Fallon’s guests, while Nore Davis performed standup.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 1,381,000 total viewers with 170,000 P18-49 on Wednesday. That’s -35% and -48%, respectively, from Tuesday’s debate-boosted episode, and +8% and +14%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday. Dave Bautista, and James Adomian were Kimmel’s guests on Wednesday’s episode. Midland performed.
NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers won the 12:35 a.m. slot on Wednesday, both in total viewers and in the P18-49 demo. The episode averaged 796,000 total viewers with 142,000 P18-49, which is -8% and -24%, respectively, from the night before. Relative to the week-ago episode, Meyers Sept. 11 episode improved by +6% in total viewers and +3% among P18-49. Demi Moore, and Jonathan Pryce were Meyers’ Wednesday guests.
CBS’ After Midnight and ABC News’ Nightline split second place at 12:35 a.m. The Taylor Tomlinson-led offering averaged 605,000 total viewers with 115,000 P18-49. That’s -20% and -36%, respectively, from the night before; but +23% and +89%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday. Aparna Nancherla, Jon Lovett, and Zac Oyama appeared on Wednesday’s episode.
ABC’s half hour news program, Nightline, averaged 709,000 total viewers with 80,000 P18-49 on Wednesday. That’s -42% and -58% from the night before; but +15% and +8% from the previous Wednesday.
The Daily Show saw its Nielsen ratings return to normal, one night after the Jon Stewart-led post-debate episode delivered the show its largest audience in seven years. Hosted by Jordan Klepper with John Heilemann appearing as his guest, the Wednesday, Sept. 11 Daily Show averaged 466,000 total viewers and 105,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -52% and -63%, respectively, from the night before. The Daily Show did not air on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
