Late Night Ratings: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

After an impressive Tuesday, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert held onto first place at 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday, despite a drop off in viewing.

Featuring guests Anna Kendrick, and Matty Matheson, the October 23 Late Show averaged a timeslot-high 1,885,000 total viewers with 221,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s down -18% in total viewers and -27% among P18-49 from the night before, +1% and -2%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.

NBC late-night continues to perform well on Wednesdays. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon took second place in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot on Oct. 23, moving past ABC in all key measurements, and nearly edging its CBS counterpart in the key 18-49 demo. Featuring Megan Thee Stallion, and Billy Crystal, along with musical guest  Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, Wednesday’s Tonight Show averaged 1,307,000 total viewers with 218,000 P18-49. That’s up +32% in total viewers and a whopping +93% among P18-49 from the night before, +7% and +15%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is dark this week, and ABC re-aired the show’s Oct. 15, 2024 episode on Wednesday night. The 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,031,000 total viewers with 108,000 P18-49 — which is down -15% in total viewers and -24% among P18-49 from the night before; -40% and -46% from the previous Wednesday (a new episode). Trevor Noah, and Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock were Kimmel’s guests on that Sept. 16 episode, and JENNIE performed.

Following Fallon, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 895,000 total viewers with 143,000 P18-49. That’s up +23% in total viewers and a solid +77% in the demo from the night before, +18% and -11%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday (a rerun). Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Bernadette Peters made guest appearances on the episode.

Wednesday’s After Midnight  averaged 564,000 total viewers with 128,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s down -23% in total viewers and -8% in P18-49 from the night before, -7% and +4%, respectively, from the week-ago episode. Josh Sharp, Suzi Barrett, and Danielle Perez all appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program.

Following Jimmy Kimmel Live!Nightline averaged 638,000 total viewers with a paltry 32,000 P18-49 on ABC. That’s down -20% in total viewers and -52% in P18-49 from the night before, -19% and -72%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.

Lastly, guest-hosted by Michael Kosta, the Oct. 23 Daily Show  averaged 448,000 total viewers with 84,000 P18-49. That’s down -18% in total viewers and -28% among P18-49 from the night before, +1% and -13%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s Daily Show. March for Our Lives co-founder/activist David Hogg joined Kosta on the program.
