Late Night Ratings: Thursday, October 31, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

On Thursday, October 31, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert continued to outperform its counterparts, both in total viewers and the key P18-49 demographic, and most of the shows shed viewers from the previous Thursday. (Perhaps a Halloween effect?)

The Late Show continued its dominant week this past Thursday by averaging 2,168,000 total viewers with 224,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s up +30% in total viewers but down -6% among P18-49 from the night before; down -5% in both of the aforementioned measurements relative to the previous Thursday’s episode. Seth Meyers was Colbert’s guest on the program. Mohanad Elshieky performed his standup act.

At the same time, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place honors at 11:35 p.m. Kimmel’s Oct. 31 episode averaged 1,550,000 total viewers and 154,000 P18-49. That’s up +18% in total viewers and +11% among P18-49 from the night before; up +33% and +20%, respectively, from the previous Thursday (a JKL rerun).

The Tonight Show drew 1,039,000 total viewers with 164,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. That’s down -1% in total viewers but up +7% among P18-49 from the night before, -11% and -23%, respectively, from the previous Thursday.  Kimmel was joined by Tiffany Haddish, and Fallon was joined by Anthony Mackie, and Sarah Sherman. Both hosts also hosted by magicians – Shin Lim appeared on Fallon, while “Science Bob” Pflugfelder appeared on Kimmel.

Moving to 12:35 a.m., Thursday’s episode of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged a timeslot-high 865,000 total viewers with 133,000 P18-49. That’s up +1% in total viewers and +8% in P18-49 from the previous night’s episode, but down -2% and -24%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode. Jesse Eisenberg, and Mika Brzezinski were Meyers guests on the program.

Airing after The Late Show, After Midnight averaged 680,000 total viewers with 97,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s up +31% in total viewers but down -25% among P18-49 from the previous night’s episode; down -2% and -29%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode. Marcella Arguello, Justin Willman, and Caroline Rhea were guests on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program.

Following Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, ABC’s Nightline averaged 805,000 total viewers with only 70,000 P18-49. That’s up +6% in total viewers but down -28% among P18-49 from the night before; up +5% and down -15%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s Nightline.

Lastly, guest hosted by Ronny Chieng, the Thursday, Oct. 31 episode of The Daily Show  averaged only 401,000 total viewers with 58,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s down -17% in total viewers and -55% among P18-49 from the night before (also guest hosted by Chieng), % and %, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode (guest hosted by Michael Kosta). Legendary newscaster Connie Chung was Chieng’s guest on the program.
