New night, similar trend: CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert outperformed its late-night counterparts, both in total viewers and among P18-49, on Thursday, November 7.
The Late Show averaged 1,912,000 total viewers with 239,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s a +4% gain in total viewers but a -4% decline among P18-49 from the night before; -12% but +7%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode (Oct. 31). Paul Bettany, Mike Birbiglia, and Robert Zemeckis were Stephen Colbert’s guests on the program.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place at 11:35 p.m. Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 1,440,000 total viewers with 143,000 P18-49 on Thursday, while The Tonight Show averaged 1,071,000 total viewers with 187,000 P18-49. Featuring guests John David Washington, and Don Johnson (and musical guest mxmtoon), Thursday’s Kimmel shed -6% in total viewers and -21% among P18-49 from the night before; dropped -7% and -7%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode. Thursday’s The Tonight Show shed -18% in total viewers and -17% in P18-49 from the night before; gained +3% and +14%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode. Saoirse Ronan, Carmelo Anthony, and David Gilmour were the Nov. 7 Tonight Show guests.
Following The Tonight Show, the Thursday, Nov. 7 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 752,000 total viewers with 131,000 P18-49. That’s down -21% in total viewers and -20% in P18-49 from the night before; down -13% and -2%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode. Barry Keoghan, and Scott Speedman were Meyers’ guests on the NBC program.
Airing after Colbert’s Late Show, After Midnight averaged 702,000 total viewers with 103,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s up +11% in total viewers but down -26% among P18-49 from the previous night’s episode; up +3% and +6%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s After Midnight. Skyler Higley, Sam Taggart, and Michelle Davis were Taylor Tomlinson’s guests on the Nov. 7 episode.
Following Kimmel was a new episode of ABC’s Nightline, which averaged 763,000 total viewers with only 87,000 P18-49 at 12:37 a.m. That’s up +0.1% in total viewers but down -20% in P18-49 viewers from the night before; down -5% but up +24%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode.
Lastly, The Daily Show was guest hosted by Ronny Chieng this past Thursday, and the episode averaged 414,000 total viewers with 77,000 viewers aged 18-49, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s down -22% in total viewers and -25% in P18-49 from the night before (hosted by Desi Lydic); up +3% and +33%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s episode (also hosted by Ronny Chieng). Politico reporter Emily Ngo was Chieng’s guest on the program.
