Late Night Ratings: Thursday, March 14, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! was the most-watched late-night show on Thursday, March 14, in the key 18-49 demo.

Kimmel, who rarely beats both CBS and NBC competition in the demo, likely benefited from Aaron Rodgers being back in the news for reportedly having espoused the belief that the kids murdered in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting were “crisis actors” (the QB promptly sought to clarify the Thursday CNN report). Whenever Rodgers, Kimmel’s nemesis, ends up in the news for the wrong reasons, it helps the ABC late-night host, and Kimmel teed off on the New York Jets star in his Thursday monologue.

The 230,000 P18-49 viewer average for Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday is up +39% from the day before (ABC did not submit Nielsen data for the previous Thursday edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a repeat). It’s +11,000 more than CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and +14,000 more than NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. JKL also averaged 1,853,000 total viewers on Thursday at 11:35, second-most behind CBS’ The Late Show and +38% day-to-day.

Oprah Winfrey, and Chromeo were Kimmel’s guests on Thursday, March 14.

The aforementioned Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged the most total linear viewers on late-night, per usual, with 1,960,000 at 11:35 p.m. The show averaged the second-most P18-49 viewers in the timeslot with 219,000. The Late Show gained +2% in total viewers and +10% in P18-49 viewers from the most-recent Thursday episode (March 7, 2024) — Colbert’s post-SOTU live episode.

Paul Simon was Colbert’s Late Show guest on Thursday, March 14.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged the third-most P18-49 viewers (216,000) on a highly competitive night, and the third-most total viewers (1,323,000). Despite the third-place finish, The Tonight Show improved by +9% in total viewers and +2% in P18-49 viewers from the prior Thursday episode.

Kacey Musgraves, and Deion Sanders were Fallon’s guests on the Thursday, March 14 edition of the Tonight Show.

Benefiting from a highly-rated edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, ABC’s Nightline won the 12:37 a.m. timeslot, both in total viewers (975,000) and P18-49 (162,000). Those are huge numbers for the late-night news program, +82% in total viewers and a whopping +138% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Thursday installment — when the show had a Jimmy Kimmel Live! repeat as its lead-in.

NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers was the No. 2 late-night show on Thursday at 12:37 a.m., both in total viewers (880,000) and in P18-49 (156,000). The show gained +35% in total viewers and +27% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Thursday.

Paul Rudd, Paula Pell, and Aric Improta were Meyers’ Late Night guests on March 14.

CBS’ After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson finished third behind NBC and ABC on Thursday at 12:37 a.m., averaging 664,000 total viewers and 106,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +15% in total viewers and +10% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Thursday broadcast.

The Thursday, March 14, 2024 installment of After Midnight featured guest appearances from Reggie Conquest, Jordan Temple, and Paul F. Tompkins.

On March 14, correspondents Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta co-hosted Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, and the episode averaged 411,000 total viewers and 80,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Relative to the previous Thursday broadcast, The Daily Show shed -3% in total viewers and -27% in P18-49 viewers.

Renée Elise Goldsberry was the Thursday, March 14 Daily Show guest.
