Late Night Ratings: Monday, July 8, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen. 

The late-night shows returned on Monday after some time off around the Independence Day holiday, and CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert kicked off the new week with a dominant Nielsen ratings win.

The Late Show‘s Monday, July 8 episode averaged 1,891,000 total viewers with 216,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +47% and +33%, respectively, from the previous Monday’s telecast (a rebroadcast). Colbert welcomed Michael Douglas, Abby Phillip, Antony Starr, and Chace Crawford to The Late Show on Monday, July 8.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon returned with a new episode on Monday, which averaged 1,263,000 total viewers with 122,000 P18-49 viewers at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +23% in total viewers but -9% in P18-49 from the Monday before (a rebroadcast). Fallon welcomed Scarlett Johansson, and Joey King to the program. Sublime performed.

With Kathryn Hahn as guest host, the Monday, July 8 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged just 997,000 total viewers with 96,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s a much smaller audience than normal. Adam Scott, and Mia Goth made guest appearances on the program. Faye Webster performed.

Following The Tonight Show, NBC presented a a new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, which delivered 830,000 total viewers with 103,000 P18-49 on Monday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Late Night gained +60% and +58% in the aforementioned measurements versus the Monday prior (a rebroadcast). Meyers welcomed Tyler Perry, and Alex Cooper to the program. Kate Schellenbach sat in with the 8G Band.

Following Colbert’s Late Show, After Midnight returned with a new episode on Monday. The episode delivered 591,000 total viewers with 101,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +20% and +22%, respectively, from the previous Monday’s After Midnight (a rebroadcast). Baron Vaughn, Rory Scovel, Rhys Darby appeared on the Taylor Tomlinson-led program.

Following Kimmel, ABC aired a new episode of Nightline, which averaged just 561,000 total viewers with only 54,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -17% in total viewers and -41% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday’s episode.

Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show on July 8, and his Biden reelection campaign-focused episode averaged 761,000 total viewers with 114,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. The 761,000 represents the show’s largest total live-plus-same-day audience in a month, and is +11% from the show’s most recent episode (the post-CNN debate episode on Thursday, June 27). However, the 114,000 P18-49 is -34% from what the show delivered on June 27. Journalist and author A.J. Jacobs appeared on Monday’s Daily Show.
