Monday, July 29 was a dark day for most of late-night. Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was an exception.
With Jon Stewart back at the anchor desk, The Daily Show averaged 777,000 total viewers with 182,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. The 777,000 is Stewart’s largest live-plus-same-day Daily Show audience since June 3, and the 182,000 is his largest live-plus-same-day audience from the key demo since March 4. Stewart welcomed Pete Buttigieg to the program on Monday.
Moving over to broadcast, CBS aired The Late Show ‘s June 12, 2024 episode this past Monday at 11:35 p.m. The telecast averaged 1,062,000 total viewers with only 111,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -49% in total viewers and -51% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday episode (a new one).
Following The Late Show, CBS re-aired After Midnight ‘s May 14, 2024 episode, and the 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 391,000 total viewers with 72,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -36% and -40%, respectively, from the Monday before (a new episode).
At 11:35 p.m., ABC re-aired Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s June 25, 2024 episode, but did not submit Nielsen viewing data for that telecast.
Following Kimmel, Nightline averaged 578,000 total viewers with only 63,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -11% and -23%, respectively, from the Monday prior.
NBC preempted The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday for Paris Olympics coverage.
