Late Night Ratings: Thursday, April 4, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took first place on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:35 p.m., both in total viewers and among Adults 18-49.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, The Late Show averaged 2,149,000 total viewers and 227,000 P18-49 viewers Thursday. That’s up +15% and flat, respectively, from the previous day’s episode (Wednesday, April 3, 2024), and up +71% in total viewers but -35% in P18-49 viewers versus the previous Thursday episode (March 28, 2024). The March 28 Late Show broadcast, which was a Feb. 27, 2024 episode repeat, received a substantial P18-49 viewer bump from NCAA March Madness coverage. The April 4, 2024 Late Show episode didn’t have that same advantage.

Steve Buscemi, and Henry Louis Gates Jr. were Colbert’s Late Show guests this past Thursday, April 4.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 211,000 P18-49 viewers and 1,266,000 total viewers, second and third place, respectively, at 11:35 p.m. The program shed -20%, both in total viewers and in P18-49 viewers, from the day before, -8% in total viewers and up +11% in P18-49 viewers versus the prior Thursday episode.

Fallon’s guests on April 4 included Dr. Phil McGraw, Alex Edelman, and G-Eazy featuring Coi Leray & Kaliii.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 1,517,000 total viewers and 202,000 P18-49 viewers this past Thursday at 11:35 p.m., second and third place, respectively, in the timeslot. That also represents a +15% improvement in total viewers and +12% improvement in P18-49 viewers from the day before. JKL was dark last week (the week of March 25, 2024), and did not submit viewer Nielsen data.

Kirsten Dunst, Andrew Scott, and Conan Gray were Kimmel’s Thursday, April 4, 2024 guests.

Moving to 12:35 a.m. shows, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 870,000 total viewers and 133,000 P18-49 viewers this past Thursday, April 4. That’s -15% and -18%, respectively, from the day before, along with +6% and -7%, respectively, from the previous Thursday episode.

The week’s SNL host Kristen Wiig, as well as Mike Birbiglia, and Fred Armisen were Meyers’ guests on the Thursday, April 4 edition of Late Night.

ABC News’ half-hour offering Nightline performed well in the ratings on Thursday. The April 4, 2024 Nightline averaged 829,000 total viewers and 162,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s up +5% in total viewers and a solid +37% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, +4% and +67% in those respective measurements versus the previous Thursday.

CBS’ After Midnight averaged 768,000 total viewers and 138,000 P18-49 viewers this past Thursday. That’s up a solid +38% in total viewers and +10% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, along with +16% in total viewers but -30% in P18-49 viewers relative to the most recent Thursday broadcast — a Jan. 22, 2024 episode repeat.

Trevor Wallace, London Hughes, and Affion Crockett appeared on Taylor Tomlinson’s After Midnight this past Thursday, April 4.

Desi Lydic wrapped up her Tuesday-Thursday Daily Show host stint on April 4. Her Thursday episode averaged just 397,000 total viewers and 84,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -19% in total viewers and -22% in P18-49 viewers from Wednesday’s episode, -17% in total viewers and -26% in P18-49 viewers from the the previous Thursday episode.

Documentary producers Sebastian Junger, and Ken Harbaugh were Lydic’s guests on the April 4 installment of the Daily Show.
