HBO’s Last Week Tonight is among the last of the late-night programs to embark on a spring break this year.
Host John Oliver’s weekly deep-dive into headlines and hot topics will be dark the next two Sundays, April 5 and April 12. Last Week Tonight will then resume its 13th season Sunday, April 19.
Already this spring, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took off the week of March 23, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! was on break this week, and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher is dark tonight.
Comedy Central’s The Daily Show just went on break and returns April 13. Over on NBC, Late Night with Seth Meyers is in the midst of a three-week hiatus (returning April 20), and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon kicks off a two-week vacation this Monday, April 7.
What is new on late night this weekend? This Saturday marks the first time SNL UK (10 p.m. GMT on Sky One) and NBC’s SNL (11:30 p.m. ET) will both air new episodes; Riz Ahmed (Bait) hosts the former, Five-Timers Club inductee Jack Black (The Super Mario Galaxy Movie) lords over the latter. The two SNLs will again be new April 11 (with hosts Jack Whitehall and Colman Domingo), and then both be dark April 18. SNL UK will then resume its freshman run April 25, with the first of another four straight episodes.
Looking to the weeknights ahead, only The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! are airing originals, though the former will be pre-empted Thursday by highlights from The Masters.
