EYEKONS rejoice: KATSEYE is now confirmed to be making their late-night debut, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The global girl group will sit with Jimmy Fallon for an interview this Wednesday, February 4— just days after performing at Sunday’s Grammys, where they are nominated for both Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Fallon’s guests on Wednesday also include actor Ethan Hawke, Cleveland Browns breakout Myles Garrett, and musical guest Nick Jonas.
Fallon teased the KATSEYE appearance this past week with a social media video in which he chomped on a zucchini, an apparent reference to the chorus of the group’s latest single, “Internet Girl,” which repeats the line “eat zucchini.” Also, Fallon’s video was captioned with the six emojis that the group uses as “charms” to symbolize each member, and the bag of zucchini is labeled with the title of another KATSEYE single, “Gnarly.”
KATSEYE uniquely boasts a lineup from around the world, with members hailing from the United States, South Korea, the Philippines, and Switzerland. Formed by Geffen Records and HYBE—the company responsible for forming BTS—through a development program often used in the K-pop world, members were chosen via the 2023 talent competition series The Debut: Dream Academy. The group’s beginnings were then documented in the 2024 Netflix docuseries Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.
The group has since seen international success with hit singles like “Touch,” “Gnarly,” and “Gabriela” (which gave KATSEYE their best chart performance thus far, peaking at 21 on the Billboard Hot 100). Off the strength of that song, the group is nominated at next weekend’s Grammy Awards in two categories (Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance).
The Tonight Show has been known to post teases like this when its bookers reel in particularly big fish—that is, those with the most fervent fan bases on social media. Fallon has previously pulled out all the stops for guests like Taylor Swift, members of BTS, and HUNTR/X — another group made popular by Netflix who went on to score Fallon massive YouTube success.
KATSEYE’s fans, dubbed “EYEKONS,” have also been waiting for the group’s late-night debut. Last July, a fake Tonight Show guest announcement for the group gained traction on X. A month earlier, a subreddit devoted to the group speculated what songs KATSEYE might perform when they finally hit a late-night stage.
Looking at the broader picture of late-night, it’s no surprise that the group’s late-night debut is coming on The Tonight Show. With The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ending, Late Night with Seth Meyers no longer booking bands, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! cutting its music bookings in half, Fallon’s program will soon be the only show that still showcases music on the level it does.
