First on LateNighter: Justin Trudeau is set to make his U.S. late-night TV debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week.
LateNighter has learned that the Canadian Prime Minister will sit down for an interview with Colbert Monday night, September 23rd.
Trudeau will be in New York participating in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Summit of the Future.
Though it’ll be Colbert’s first sit-down with the Canadian Prime Minister, the late-night host no stranger to world leaders. Over the last ten years he’s welcomed three US presidents to The Late Show (four if you count his 2016 interview with then-candidate Donald Trump). And let us not forget former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who visited with Colbert in New York on three different occasions, and even hosted him in New Zealand.
Colbert’s visit with Trudeau will kick off a week of big gets for The Late Show. Tuesday’s episode will see Colbert welcome Kate Winslet and Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, while Bill Gates and Jane Goodall will join The Late Show host on Wednesday.
Monday’s episode is also scheduled to include feature a segment in which RuPaul Charles takes “The Colbert Questionnaire.”
