Two and a half months after making his Daily Show hosting debut, Josh Johnson is set to return to the anchor desk Tuesday through Thursday of this week—picking up where the show’s regular Monday night host Jon Stewart leaves off tonight.
As we’ve reported, Johnson made a splash in his July debut, outdrawing each of the show’s other rotating hosts—and even Stewart—among viewers in the coveted 18–49 demographic.
Johnson, who joined The Daily Show writing staff in 2017 and became an on-air correspondent in 2024, has been steadily building momentum both off-camera and online. In addition to his sold-out national stand-up tour, he’s cultivated a digital following of more than 4 million fans. His weekly Tuesday night YouTube sets—smart, winding comedic narratives stitched from news headlines—regularly rack up millions of views and have become required viewing for fans of sharp, story-driven satire.
In an Instagram post Sunday, Johnson teased, “Two cultural events in one week. Taylor dropped. I’m back hosting @thedailyshow . Wish list fulfilled.”
His guest lineup hints at another wide-ranging week. On Tuesday, Johnson welcomes Wawa Gatheru, founder and executive director of Black Girl Environmentalist. Wednesday’s episode features Anthony Ramos, the recording artist and actor promoting his new Netflix film A House of Dynamite. Thursday wraps with a visit from Hunter Prosper, the ICU nurse and viral storyteller whose debut book Stories from a Stranger hits shelves this week.
Meanwhile, Jon Stewart kicks off the week tonight—Monday, October 6—with Tristan Harris, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology and host of the podcast Your Undivided Attention.
