John Mulaney Books Film Role Alongside Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o

John Mulaney’s schedule just keeps getting busier and busier.

Just ahead of his eagerly awaited sixth hosting gig this weekend at Saturday Night Live, Searchlight Pictures announced Friday that the Everybody’s in LA host is set to co-star in the upcoming film Lunik Heist alongside Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o.

Written and directed by Oscar nominee Kemp Powers (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, One Night in Miami), Lunik Heist takes place during the Cold War, centering on the U.S. government’s plot to steal a Soviet spacecraft during a 1959 expedition in Mexico City.

Details on Mulaney’s role in the flick are being kept under wraps. Lunik Heist is based on an article by Jeff Maysh, which was published in MIT Technology Review. Maysh serves as an executive producer on the film, along with producers Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Mark Johnson.

“We’re so thrilled to bring together such an exceptional team,” Matthew Greenfield, president of Searchlight Pictures said in a statement to TheWrap. “With the extraordinary talents of Jared, Lupita, and John, led by the visionary Kemp, Lunik Heist is a wild, roller-coaster ride, filled with subterfuge and unlikely heroes.”

Mulaney, who just welcomed his second child with wife Olivia Munn, is keeping busy. After hosting SNL this weekend alongside first-time musical guest Chappell Roan, he’s set to make a five-week return to Broadway, where he’ll be starring in his pal and former SNL colleague Simon Rich’s new play, All In: Comedy About Love.

He’s also in pre-production on a new live weekly talk show for Netflix and is due to guest star in Season 2 of Peacock’s Poker Face (joining Ego Nwodim and Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall).

Mulaney returns to SNL this Saturday, November 2, at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
