ABC Sets Return of Jimmy Kimmel’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

Jimmy Kimmel plans to spend another summer presiding over the hot seat, and ABC has now locked in a date.

The Kimmel-hosted, celebrity-injected primetime version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will return for a fifth season Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. ET.

Kimmel also continues to serve as an executive producer of the series through his production company Kimmelot, alongside Michael Davies for Sony Television’s Embassy Row. ABC did not specify an episode count for the new season, but the game show’s last two runs had eight-episode orders.

Once again, Millionaire will feature two celebrities competing together—a format that Kimmel’s version of the show introduced in its third season—in a quest to earn $1 million for charities of their choice. This year’s contestants have not yet been revealed, but Kimmel may have a hard time topping the lineup of last year’s premiere, which saw Jeopardy! GOAT-turned-host Ken Jennings faux-surprise Kimmel by enlisting his sworn enemy, Matt Damon, as a partner.

Millionaire’s July return gives ABC’s longtime late-night host a continued presence on the network during the summer months, as Kimmel typically takes time off from Jimmy Kimmel Live! and enlists fill-in hosts.

Kimmel first revived the Millionaire format in early 2020 (less than a year after the long-running syndicated version left the airwaves) to mark the 20th anniversary of the show first helmed Stateside by Regis Philbin. The celebrity version’s initial format, which saw Kimmel challenging one celebrity contestant at a time, ran for two seasons; the show returned with a retooled format of celebrity duos in the fall of 2024.

This new batch of episodes will be the first to air since ABC’s commitment to Kimmel has been put up under a microscope—first following JKL‘s brief removal from the network last September, and most recently amid President Donald Trump urging ABC to fire Kimmel “soon” if not “immediately.”

ABC’s summer game show lineup will also include the returns ofCelebrity Family Feud with host Steve Harvey (Thursday, July 9, at 8 pm), and Press Your Luck with Elizabeth Banks (July 9 at 9 pm).
