Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to his ABC late-night series Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday, marking the end of a standoff between the comedian and Disney, ABC’s parent company.
Under mounting pressure from both the creative community and consumers—a “Boycott Disney” campaign had been gathering steam in recent days—Disney intensified negotiations with Kimmel to find a path forward. The network has now apparently succeeded, reaching an agreement that clears the way for Kimmel’s return to the late-night stage.
In a statement, ABC said “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Kimmel was suddenly pulled from the air on Wednesday, September 17, after two major ABC station groups—at the urging of FCC Chair Brendan Carr—said they would stop carrying Jimmy Kimmel Live! over a remark he made in his monologue two nights earlier about “the MAGA gang” and its reaction to emerging details about Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer. Amid a growing right-wing media furor, Kimmel had reportedly planned to clarify his remarks on his show the same night the network announced it was suspending the program “indefinitely.”
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Nexstar and Sinclair, the two station groups who last week announced their own plans to preempt Kimmel indefinitely would also be returning Kimmel to the air.
In a statement last week, Sinclair said “Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”
Since launching Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003, Kimmel has become ABC’s signature star, hosting multiple Academy Awards ceremonies, leading a primetime revival of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and serving as a centerpiece of ABC’s annual upfront presentations.
America spoke with it’s wallets and Disney folded. That’s how you do it.
And that’s how you do it ladies and gentlemen.
If Kimmel hates fascism, why doesn’t he ever criticize China?
Is it due to Disney’s incestuous relationship with China?
Dude, in the wise words of Elsa, let it go~
Save your whining for tomorrow night~
Don’t estimate the the collective power of the wallet and public outcries~
lmao incestuous? China has to at least be second cousins. I’m not counting that as incest
And Mucky Boy here keeps on spewing out his batshit views, peoples! He’s the living embodiment of insanity!
what ever happened to free speech. walked and quacked like a censor. Shame on you!
Remember this folks! $$$$$$$ talks. Boycotts work. This is how it’s done.
Have you ever met “those people “who have no sense of humor?
Make a list and start with D JT
president trump is funny has always been.
you left wing nuts just don’t like when the joke is on you that’s all.
He’s ’funny’ the way tragically demented people are funny when they say crazy untrue things. He is clearly in senescence.
Look up ‘sundowning’. His rambling and contradictions are clinically familiar to anyone who has cared for these members of our communities.
Ayyy, the same can be said about you lot too. That’s pretty much the whole reason why Kimmel’s in this mess in the first place lol.
Drumpf funny?
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Oh wait, you were being serious! Lemme laugh even harder at your stupid face!
BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAA!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyone can get in trouble with the president, if the president is a nut job who abuses power
so let me get this straight jimmy show has been
failing in ratings for sometime now so you cancel it
only to later double down on bringing it back to fail
even worse ratings later. LMAO.
Buuuuuut he has value, as demonstrated when Disney plus cancellations have been increasing, ending up with almost 5 billion dollars of revenue lost
Kimmel may not be favorable to people like you being so fickle about ratings, but at the end of the day he is still a big asset to Disney, which the only thing that matters anyways~
Kimmel’s drinking your tears, and so am I lol.
Out of all of the internet, how do you right wing bozos end up here? 4chan and X missin’ ya, bud!
Cry harder, bitch hole! Your Dear Toddler Drumpf exposed himself, once again, as a thin skinned diaper baby that Jimmy Kimmel made into his little bitch again!
his show was never cancelled, production was stoped indefinitely. Which only means until they decide to start again.
The difference between getting “postponed indefinitely” and “cancelled” is like getting “suspended” and “expelled” from school. Kimmel was never expelled.

Some of those numbers got transferred to views online. For example, on the West Coast, the monologue is published online hours before the linear TV broadcast, which could potentially drive down the viewership in that part of the country. Regardless, the monetization structure of these shows and other genres in television need to be revamped from the 20th Century models of ad buys on linear TV in an age when people can skip commercials with a press of a button.
I hope we don’t come to find out that Jimmy had to apologize, admit any wrongdoing or make a donation to some garbage organization with values that go against those of most decent people.
Me too!
This whole bs is a reeking example of the great harm that these mega-mergers have done to our society and culture. And yet it’s only getting worse! How much has Carr been bribed already?
Too many ‘leaders’ have turned a blind eye to regulating the resulting monopolies, which carry more clout and financial power than whole countries.
I learned early on in my career to never work for a ‘publicly held’ corporation ; you are nothing, nonhuman and expendable at a moment’s notice.
These giant monopolies, with all their greedy unrelated offshoots, need to be broken up, and returned to the competition of the marketplace, which IS US- the actual consumers.
Every dollar you spend, or DON’T SPEND is a powerful vote.
And Jimmy K: DON’T CHANGE A THING. Just sue Carr for threats and unconstitutional interference, defamation and damages. It’s worth billions.
WELL SAID! Nexstar and Sinclair are ripe for trust busting litigation. Yes, yes, yes, I know how they grew. Nevertheless, now that they are positing their stodgy, narrow minded beliefs, they should be approached for a breakup. BTW in case you havent heard, the nexstar ceo makes $45M a year.
Broadcast Television Station Ownership must be de-regulated so that they can better compete in an ever-changing Media Landscape. Sorry folks, Broadcasting must meet certain standards.
Oh terrific, make a deplorable situation even worse! No fucking thank you!
I would like to know what the terms were. I hope he wouldn’t make that “donation” to Turning Point USA that Carr tried to strong-arm him into!
Awesome News! I am excited for his return!
It should have never been cancelled.
Disrespecting the President, no matter who it is at the time, is not funny. It has never been funny. It’s actually disgraceful. We don’t all have to agree on things, and we won’t, but we should show respect to the office, to the position, to our country. At the end of the day, we all live in America. We are all Americans. We should act like it, especially those with the power to influence others should. Kimmel’s nightly ideological vitriol is not enjoyed by at least half of the country. He and the show might want to learn something from this experience. Not the business and political side of the cancellation, but the public’s reaction to it. Remaining tone-deaf would be a mistake on Kimmel’s part. A return to 2010 Kimmel would be much better plan. Just provide entertainment… for all of us.
The office does get respect. Respect for the person in the office has to be earned.
It’s not automatic just because they won an election. We’re not Saddam-era Iraq.
We are Americans _because_ we live in a country where we can make fun of the President (no matter who it is at the time) and other people in power without fear of governmental interference. That’s a tradition that’s been in our DNA since before the days of Mark Twain and Will Rogers. When the most powerful person in the world decides to use his privately-owned social media company to message his millions of followers that they think a comedian’s so-called “cancellation” is a great day for America, something has severely short-circuited.
Late night, much like a lot of television, isn’t primarily a broadcast medium anymore. There are some TV shows that still act as broadcast events, but most of them are sports related. There are more than three networks for people to choose from (not to mention all the competition from the Internet). The audience for late night has been fractured for decades and has been primarily narrow-casting for well over a decade, especially as politics begins to infuse itself into almost every waking moment. People no longer want a respite from the day, but a form of catharsis after another day of news craziness from Washington. A lot of people find that to be entertainment. For those who don’t, they can watch old Carson episodes on Antenna TV, Fallon after a football game, or Gutfeld’s prime-time show. Heck, they make a podcast or video series on YouTube and try to top Kimmel’s ratings themselves with the “entertainment for all of us” that is apparently desperately missing right now.
Hey idiot! Are you gonna tell that to Fox News and other right wing operatives out there? Cuz they’ve been extremely disrespectful when it comes to Democratic presidents!
Disney lost a huge number of subscribers and is stock plummeted with the total loss of approximately 3.8 billion dollars.
You are sadly misinformed if you believe the right wing hysteria/propaganda that Jimmy Kimmel is not popular.
