Jimmy Kimmel will welcome Ben Affleck, Larry David, Michael Keaton and several of Kimmel’s fellow late-night stars to the hot seat when Who Wants to Be a Millionaire returns for its fifth season a week from today.
The ABC game show will return Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m., with 16 celebrity pairs attempting to win as much as $1 million for charities of their choice.
Among this season’s late-night representatives are The Daily Show correspondent-host Michael Kosta, who will team with Wendi McLendon-Covey (St Denis Medical), and Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che.
The season will feature another SNL pairing in former cast members Will Forte and Taran Killam, while Jason Alexander and Wayne Knight will stage a mini Seinfeld reunion.
Larry David will compete alongside his daughter Cazzie David for the season premiere, while Ben Affleck will be paired with Jamie Ding, the recent Jeopardy! champion whose 31-game winning streak presumably makes him the person Affleck will want handling most of the questions.
Other comedy pairings include Tig Notaro and Pete Holmes, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel, and Awkwafina and director Paul Feig. Michael Keaton will play with Jon Lovett.
The remaining teams are Jesse Eisenberg and Paul Giamatti; Krysten Ritter and Sarah Shahi; Billy Porter and Leslie Odom Jr.; Brad Paisley and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw; Nobody Wants This co-stars Timothy Simons and Jackie Tohn; and sisters Brooks Nader and Sarah Jane Nader.
Kimmel has hosted and executive produced ABC’s revived Millionaire since 2020. The current version features celebrity pairs playing together for charity.
The series is also heading into Season 5 with two new Primetime Emmy nominations for last year’s fourth season. Millionaire was nominated for Outstanding Game Show, while Kimmel received a nod for Outstanding Host for a Game Show—the same category he won last year.
Last season produced two million-dollar victories. Matt Damon and Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings won the top prize for Damon’s Water.org charity in July, giving Kimmel the indignity of handing his longtime fake nemesis a $1 million check.
The Office stars Oscar Nuñez and Kate Flannery followed them in the September season finale, winning $1 million for Planned Parenthood and Philadelphia food bank Philabundance with help from Phone-a-Friend Brian Baumgartner.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire premieres Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and will stream on Hulu.
