Looks like Jimmy Kimmel has a new sparring partner.
All eyes were on the ABC late-night host Thursday night after he became a talking point on Fox News for making light of Tesla vandalism, with Sean Hannity calling Kimmel “an unhinged loser,” and appealing to Disney boss Bob Iger to fire him.
Kimmel did not directly address Hannity’s comments last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, choosing instead to respond to similarly-themed comments from Vice President JD Vance.
“Even the vice president took a break from humping his ottoman to complain about—not just me—you,” Kimmel recapped for his audience as part of his opening monologue.
During an appearance on the VINCE podcast Thursday afternoon, the VP was asked about Kimmel, who’s been under fire for a couple of days now over a clip from his Tuesday night show in which he appeared to be encouraging Tesla vandalism. (In both his Wednesday and Thursday night monologues, he made a point to denounce arson attacks on Tesla dealerships.)
“I will say, in the sense of the American people, Jimmy Kimmel’s show is so unfunny and boring and left-wing, that it probably is not a representative sample,” Vance said. “If you go to a Jimmy Kimmel Live! viewing, you have to really be a humorless scold.”
Kimmel played a clip of that exchange for viewers last night, inserting a montage of JD Vance memes into the footage for good measure.
“Did you hear what he just called you?” Kimmel asked his audience after replaying Vance’s ‘humorless scolds’ comment. “What is wrong with you people? Are you trying to make JD’s mascara run?”
The host also took aim at Vance’s unusual word choice: “‘Humorless scolds.’ Who talk-eth like that? The Archbishop of Canterbury?”
Kimmel went on to play another clip from the Vance interview, with yet more Vance memes added.
Asked to comment on judges going against Trump, Vance took the opportunity for one more random shot at Kimmel. “I bet all those judges are huge fans of Jimmy Kimmel, by the way,” Vance had quipped.
“Good one, JD. You shoehorned that one in real good,” Kimmel replied last night, before shifting to a more direct plea. “Sometimes I wonder, in what world is the Vice President of the United States calling into a giant-toothed podcast host to badmouth me and the people who watch this show,” Kimmel said.
