Jimmy Fallon and Lin-Manuel Miranda Give Hamilton the ‘Classroom Instruments’ Treatment

It may still be summertime, but Jimmy Fallon went back to school Tuesday night as the Tonight Show host unveiled a fresh installment of his popular “Classroom Instruments” series—this time with Lin-Manuel Miranda joining the fun.

Almost ten years to the day after Hamilton officially opened on Broadway (August 6, 2015), Miranda, Fallon, and The Roots delivered a “Hamilton-style” edition of “Classroom Instruments,” with the entire crew dressed in Revolutionary War–inspired costumes reminiscent of the Tony Award–winning musical.

Together, the group powered through a lively medley of “Alexander Hamilton” and “My Shot,” with Miranda accompanying the band on both the triangle and the kazoo.

Fallon has been producing “Classroom Instruments” segments since his Late Night with Jimmy Fallon days, when he and The Roots first launched the concept by performing “Call Me Maybe” with Carly Rae Jepsen in 2012. The series has grown into a fan favorite, with more than 30 segments featuring artists ranging from Adele to Metallica.

The show’s most recent “Classroom Instruments” appearance came nine months ago, when Gwen Stefani joined Fallon for a spirited rendition of “Hollaback Girl”, complete with pom-poms for the entire Roots crew.

As we’ve reported, Miranda’s visit on Tuesday night also set a new milestone for the show. He has now appeared on Fallon’s The Tonight Show 21 times—the most appearances of any guest who isn’t part of the show’s regular staff.
