Jimmy Fallon and Bill Gates Go Chair Jumping (and Beyond)

Jimmy Fallon and Bill Gates just dropped a track that is bound to get people jumping—literally.

While interviewing Gates on last night’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon brought up the meme featuring the Microsoft founder, pulled from a 1994 CBS News interview Gates did with journalist Connie Chung. “Is it true that you can leap over a chair from a standing position?” Chung asked the Microsoft founder.

“It depends on the size of the chair,” the young Gates replied before successfully demonstrating the feat for Chung. The vintage clip has been shared widely over the years online.

“I used to waste a lot of time in my office,” Gates explained to Fallon. “I started with a garbage can and worked my way up.”

“It turns out you can jump over lots of other things, too,” Fallon replied. “And you just released a music video to prove it.”

With that, the duo presented the “world premiere” of their new music video, “I Could Jump It,” complete with 1990s Microsoft-inspired visuals.

The video, featuring Fallon evoking the image of an early-‘90s Gates, alongside the real Gates as his modern-day self, finds the pair rapping about the various things they can jump over—from a Chicken McNugget to a plate of tea and crumpets. (The list even includes a cameo from The Tonight Show’s haunting Timothée Chalamet puppet.)

As if recruiting Gates for the video wasn’t enough, there’s another surprise in store in the clip: an appearance from Connie Chung herself.

Gates appeared on The Tonight Show to promote his new memoir, Source Code: My Beginnings. Fallon has welcomed Gates to his show four times between Late Night and The Tonight Show. In past visits, Gates has drank “poop water” and attempted two other viral music videos to promote the Gates Foundation’s annual letter.
