Jimmy Kimmel’s last guest host of the summer, Jelly Roll, went where many expected Rosie O’Donnell to go last week: in hard on Donald Trump.
The multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter spent part of his Monday night monologue (above) delivering a surprisingly sustained barrage against the president, mocking everything from Trump’s flag-waving skills to his fixation on race before eventually turning to a subject Jelly Roll knows something about firsthand: weight loss.
He opened by taking aim at Trump’s appearance at this weekend’s IndyCar race through the streets of Washington, D.C., first mocking the president’s awkward flag-waving before adding, “The president seemed to enjoy the IndyCar race, which was a real switch-up for him because normally he only likes his own race.”
From there, Jelly Roll turned to Trump’s health, citing a Washington Post report that doctors have raised concerns about the president’s weight after he gained 14 pounds and tipped the scales at nearly 240.
“Think about this, y’all, in the last few years I’ve lost 300 pounds,” hed said. “That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump. And let’s be honest, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing.”
He then feigned concern about making fun of Trump’s weight—“because we know he would never do that to other people”—before rolling a montage of the president calling various people “fat,” a “fat slob” and a “fat pig.”
“Well, if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle fat,” Jelly Roll said when the clip ended. “Mr. President, from one fat pig to another, take it from me, physical fitness is very important. And trust me, you’ll be happy to see your penis again.”
The Trump material is particularly notable coming from Jelly Roll, who has described himself as apolitical in the past, explaining that he grew up in an environment where day-to-day survival took precedence over politics.
