A notoriously bad wax figure of former Tonight Show host Jay Leno—one that’s spent years circulating online as a punchline—has officially hit the market.
The figure is currently listed for $1,250 by Obnoxious Antiques, a New Jersey-based collectibles superstore. The piece appears to originate from Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, the oft-maligned museum chain known for celebrity likenesses that miss the mark—sometimes spectacularly.
Founded by the great-grandson of Marie Tussaud and now operated by Ripley Entertainment, Louis Tussaud’s has developed a reputation for figures that look only vaguely like their subjects. The Leno statue in question has become a frequent fixture in viral compilations of the world’s worst wax figures.
This isn’t the first late-night artifact to pass through Obnoxious Antiques in recent months. A similarly dubious wax rendering of David Letterman—believed to be from the same collection—was listed earlier this year and has since been sold, presumably to a buyer with a taste for ironic television memorabilia.
Also currently available: wax figures resembling Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, and Miley Cyrus—each carrying the same unmistakable Louis Tussaud’s aesthetic.
Best known for his two stints hosting The Tonight Show, Leno led NBC’s flagship late-night franchise from 1992 to 2009 and again from 2010 to 2014. His tenure—marked by two of late night’s most fraught hosting transitions—ended with Jimmy Fallon taking over the desk, where he remains today.
Conan had two wax figures purchased for the “Tonight Show” when he was the host. He fired them out of a cannon. He definitely has another opportunity now. 😉
