James Austin Johnson Sidelined by Kidney Stone

Another Saturday Night Live star has been placed on the injured list.

Just days after Colin Jost’s time as an Olympics surfing correspondent was interrupted by a week of medical maladies, fellow SNLer James Austin Johnson is having his comedy tour thwarted by a kidney stone.

Since June, Johnson has been out performing standup on the “Summer Jobs Tour” alongside castmates Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker. But three of those dates have had to go on without him.

Earlier this week, Johnson announced via Instagram that he’s “homebound the next couple of days,” forcing him to drop off the lineup for Wednesday night’s show in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Thursday’s show in Atlanta.

“My doctor doesn’t want me to fly until it passes, hopefully soon,” he explained.

Punkie Johnson—who just announced her departure from SNL last week—had already been filling in for Walker recently, leaving her and Dismukes as the only two performers on the bill for the Charlotte and Atlanta shows.

“It is truly a roller coaster of pain and meds,” Johnson said of his current situation. “Sometimes it feels like bad constipation, sometimes it feels like I’ve been sabered in the gut.”

While the comedian added that his doctor expected him to be better by the time his show “with very special guests” at L.A.’s Largo at the Coronet on August 12, it seems that’s not to be. On Saturday, Johnson shared via Instagram that he would not be able to make this show either.

Thankfully, it sounds like Johnson (and Jost) are expected to be on the mend by the time SNL‘s monumental 50th season premieres on September 28.
