A hopefully fully recovered Colin Jost will headline September’s Rochester Fringe Festival after his friend and former SNL castmate Pete Davidson was forced to cancel.
Jost has been announced as the new comedy headliner for the festival, which will take place in Rochester, New York next month. Last week, Davidson canceled eight upcoming shows to enter a wellness facility for his mental health, People reported. Jost’s performance will take place on Friday, September 13.
That should give the “Weekend Update” co-anchor enough time to heal from his recent injury-plagued run as a surfing correspondent for the 2024 Olympics. Following his arrival in Tahiti, Jost suffered a foot injury, a staph infection in the wound, and an unrelated ear infection. He flew back from Tahiti earlier this week before the surfing finals even wrapped up. (“Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” he has since joked on Instagram.)
Jost is a natural choice to sub for Davidson. In addition to working together on SNL from 2014 through 2022, the two Staten Island natives are close friends and even own a ferry together.
In addition to the upcoming 50th season of SNL, which is set to premiere on September 28, Jost also has more hosting duties on his docket. He was just named the host of Amazon Prime Video’s Pop Culture Jeopardy!, which is expected to begin production this month.
Tickets for Jost’s show are available now, but tickets already purchased for Davidson’s show will also be honored (refunds for Davidson tickets are also available). For those still deciding, Davidson’s comparison of the two Staten Islanders on “Weekend Update” might be helpful.
