Weeks after she was first spotted by eagle-eyed fans of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, Netflix has finally released artwork drawn by the show’s resident courtroom sketch artist.
As we’ve previously reported, the artist in question is Mona Shafer Edwards, one of Los Angeles’ premier courtroom sketchers. Over the last four decades, she has illustrated such infamous trials as those of Richard Ramirez, O.J. Simpson, the Menendez Brothers, and Michael Jackson. Since the launch of Mulaney’s weekly Netflix talk show, Edwards has had a front row seat at Mulaney’s show, where she’s been sketching the proceedings.
The show had shown fleeting glimpses of Edwards, who is also named in the show’s end credits—but so far, Mulaney hasn’t called attention to her work on the air.
Now Netflix is revealing the final products of her work through the first four episodes. The streamer posted Edwards’ work on its Instagram account, sharing side-by-sides of production stills and the artist’s sketches for each of the show’ eclectic guest lineups. Edwards’ portraits of John Mulaney and Richard Kind round out the batch of pics.
Edwards manages to capture a wildly impressive amount of detail in each drawing, from set decor to guest wardrobe and facial details. And that’s only more impressive when considering how little time she has to create each piece. Edwards says she only has only around thirty minutes to create two illustrations each week during the live show.
Edwards’ work can be seen below. A new episode of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney streams live on Netflix this Wednesday, April 9th at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
